Travel the Caribbean!...
...See the Sites! Experience the Culture!
So where is the Caribbean and what does it include? Many of you have traveled there and have a pretty good idea! Did you know that the Caribbean is any where that the Caribbean Sea touches? Plus there are lots of little islands that US citizens don't travel to in great numbers… Islands left for you to explore!
Therefore, lets talk briefly about the Caribbean. It includes the northern coast of Venezuela and Columbia, South America. All of the East Coast of Central America is touched by the Caribbean Sea. That includes Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, Belize and Mexico.
Now to the islands... Trinidad and Tobago are off the coast of South America, as are the ABC Islands (Abaco, Bonaire and Curacao). There is also Margarita Island and La Tortuga, plus a few other small islands on the shores of Venezuela.
In the eastern Caribbean there is a chain of islands that run north to south, starting with Anguilla and ending with Grenada. In that chain are familiar named islands as Martinique, St. Martin, St. Lucia, a total of 16 islands/countries/vacation spots. Barbados sits off to the right (east) of this chain, closer to the South American end of this chain.
Off to the North west of this chain are the British and US Virgin Islands. The US Virgin Islands include St. Thomas, St. John, and St. Croix. Continuing west from there you will find Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Jamaica and then the Grand Caymans. North of the Caymans and Jamaica, stretching from Haiti to Mexico is Cuba.
Going from the northern Caribbean Sea and into the Atlantic Ocean, off of the East coast of Florida, we have the many islands of the Bahamas (700 Bahamian islands). They also run north to south. Many consider The Bahamas as part of the Caribbean. At the lower tip you will find Turks and Caicos.
The US territories of Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, St. John and St. Croix do not require a passport.
The Caribbean has been influenced by many cultures in its history. You have the original indigenous people and then the early explorers (including pirates) who left a historical trail through the Caribbean. They also left a variety of languages that include, French, Dutch, Spanish, local languages and English.
The cost to travel to the Caribbean varies. As I have told many of you, it is a matter of "supply and demand," distance, plus the weather. So, how come a small island like Anguilla is so expensive? Well, we are not the only ones who vacation in this wonderful area. The Caribbean is the vacation playground of Europeans, Asians, Canadians and South Americans. I am finding that my clients are getting more adventuresome and want to try some of the varying Caribbean vacation spots.
Well, as you see, there is a lot to the area know as the Caribbean! If you are a beach and water person, or would like to explore the history of this area, there is a lot to do or not do! Hopefully you will have fun in the many vacation spots in this vast and diverse place called the Caribbean and will let me help you fulfill your Vision of a Vacation!

Vision Vacations Reviews
Jamaica
The picture, on right, is of Lobster Dave and his "restaurant." At several travel agent trainings I attended, the trainer, Tom Ogg, told us about Lobster Dave. Tom said Dave had the best Lobster! In all my prior trips to Jamaica I never made it to Lobster Dave. My last trip I made it a mission! Lobster Dave is in a little fishing village next to the Island Village Shopping center in Ocho Rios. His open air restaurant is on the water. He serves a plate of lobster with a delicious sauce. We had three lobsters each. They were soooo good! I ate with my fingers and got every piece of lobster I could (and I consider myself a vegetarian). The experience was well worth the diet deviation!
Jamaica is a rich country in culture and natural beauty. Doing a tour or finding a safe cab driver who provides tours (these are found at the hotels, are cheaper than the organized tours and are more flexible) can give you the opportunity to explore the diversity and beauty of this country.
Jamaica has mineral springs, the Blue Mountains, river rafting, horse back riding, water sports, plantations and plantation tours, caves, rocky cliffs, varying and beautiful coast lines and of course Dunn's River Falls. Fern gully, a winding road over a riverbed with luscious foliage, ferns and flowers, is lovely. It takes you to a different place! I have to also mention the wonderful golf courses. They have breath taking views. There are numerous golf tournaments held in Jamaica due to their excellent courses.
The history of Jamaica is one like many of the islands and even the United States. It is one of occupations, slavery, plantations and freedom. Unfortunately there is a rawer type of poverty, one seen on many islands and in third world counties. History can be viewed at such places as Rose Hall Great House, Seville Great House, Bob Marley Museum, Green Grotto Caves (a hiding place for run away slaves in the18th century), Coyaba River Garden, Shaw Park Gardens and Cranbrook Flower Forest. There is also Columbus Park where Christopher Columbus first landed.
